Welcome Teachers & Parents!

When it comes to learning how to write, young children struggle with the fine motor development needed to properly hold a pencil.  A child's development happens in stages, beginning with gross motor movements in infancy and progressively working toward fine motor skills.  This "Trunk to Finger-Tip" continuum can be enhanced through age appropriate activities during the Pre-K, TK, and Kindergarten years.  Included in this web page are classroom activities for developing the motor coordination needed as a precursor for writing formally.  These activities are geared toward young Preschool, Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten children that can be easily integrated into any curriculum through small group and whole-class activities.
